Maggot, What was the verdict?
Came back from a trip and the gearbox started to get notchy on the changes. Pulled up in the driveway and took a look under to see a rather large amount of oil spew out of the bell housing.....
Would blocked breathers cause gear oil to spew out the front of the gearbox after a day of wheeling?
It dosen't happen at any other time?
I'm talking like 500ml!

If the breather was blocked... Probably, yes. Either that or what ever route offered the path of least resistance.

Not sure on the Rangie but if either the gearbox or transfer case have blocked breathers one can pressurize and blow the seal to the other which causes either box to overflow oil. The excess oil will come out of the breather thats not blocked.Check the level of either, see wich one is low and which one is leaking this may be an indication. I know 75 series Landcruisers that this was the case. I placed a hose from the transfer case to the gear box on my 75 series to stop this from happening as well as cleaning the breathers. As I said not sure if you can do that on the Rangie or not.Hope this helps out??
Thanks

yep it will, if the oil came out of the bell housing you could be in a spot of trouble, once blown out the seal leak forever... leave your bellhousing drainplug out and see what keeps coming out...
then goto super crap, grab 4 of those cheapyu fuel filters and then put them on the end of the breathers, no more clogged breathers. I also bet some extra hose and then push them back through one of the grommets to inside the dash behind the instrument binnicale.

Just a follow up on this (2 years later!!!! How time flies and life gets so busy.....)
My oil leak was due to a shagged front pinion bearing in the gearbox allowing the input shaft to move axially.
After I fixed this 2 months later the anti-rotation pin in 5th gear sheared off, allowing the stop plate to spin and hence wear, creating play on 5th gear and a horrendous buzz coming from the box when in 5th.....
