excessive lighting.....

Hi VladTapes, the replacement globes for the driving lights are the standard H4 type, the Rangy has separate low and high globes, they are both H7 globes, so they are a different set up but as the globes you are after are a fairly well used type, I would be surprised if you can’t get the equivalent for yours.
By the way, I first tried the Narva extra bright globes in the headlight’s high beam and although they have a light output rated at 50% more than normal globes, there was no noticeable difference.
After changing to the Phillips there was an improvement but remember I was only changing the high beam using the same Phillips globes. In high beam, the light is much whiter and noticeable.

from memory in vic. you can run no more than six forward facing lights maximum. check the vicroads site to be sure incase it has changed.

the six include you're original lights so therefore an 80series cruiser could only legally run two extra lights.

I think there are that many loop holes in this document, that it is such a grey area..... that the cops have no idea either, print this out and keep it handy !!!

Six extra lights seem like overkill to me. Each to their own I guess.

I would have thought equal lighting in both directions would be better.

Victorian Road law states.
No more than 6 forward facing lights, excluding turning signals and parking lights.
Height can not exceed lowest point of windscreen.
So the top of you lights must not be higher than the lowest point of the windscreen.

I was pinged on the rallycar by the Vic police for having the lights 1cm to high. I found that a tad petty, but laws are laws.

Personally i would do a pirana wiring loom or similar upgrade and a good set of driving lamps.

If you want the roof rack lights and your economy to be worse as roofracks cause then make them removable. Then only bolt them on when your not on public roads.

If you get pulled over by a TOGgie you will enjoy the fact he wont be impressed in the extra lights and while he is there you can enjoy the fact he will find all the oil leaks and the body lift and the oversized tyres.

I try to keep within the legal limits of modifications.

Last May i was out Bush on a Rally doing a Control and the Vic police and Rangers were pulling every 4WD over and slapping on Canaries.
I think out of the 100 odd that got done only 5 or so were let off.
I was one of them as i still had not done any mods. I had all my Rally gear in the back and i explained my reasons for being out Bush. He was a nice officer who did pick up that my tyres were unroadworthy, but let me go as i was not a cowboy.
One guy who was with me was in a 80 series that was tough in the bush.
He was not impressed that they picked Tyres, rims, lights, height, no flares, bodsy damage, rust, ect ect...

So end of the day, keep your $$ in your pocket and dont get nailed for something you dont have to.
Spend the $$ on improving what you have in lighting.

What about people that have four lights on the bulbar ? Saw someone with 2x big Lightforce 240's mounted where you would mount the antenna's ? Beside the 6x lights facing forward rule, is there any other rule that wouldn't let you do this ? I surpose the rule for "top of you lights must not be higher than the lowest point of the windscreen." would cause a problem [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.gif[/img]

Top of the light height is the big problem.
If you were smart you would make a removable bracket and remove the lights when on public roads.

Ron Moon (4x4 Magazine, I think) has a Patrol with 2 'standard' lights on the bar in the usual palce and 2 HID units mounted on top of the bar.

And this in a national 4wd magazine.
