    V8 4.0 2003 Bolt chaser sizings

    I am doing the top end on my 2003 Disco and wanted to get thread chasers for the head bolts and manifolds I have seen a post on the 3.9 thats gives imperial sizings but not sure if that will hold true for the slightly later 4.0.

    Could someone confirm the size and thread for these bolts.?
    head, exhaust and inlet manifolds.

    I am also considering using the ARP head stud kit does anyone have any experience of this over the standard LR OE stretch bolts which I dont hear a lot of good things about.

    Much thanks for the help. This is pre-emptive work on a car thats done 165K not using any coolant but I have to do the rear main seal so as I am taking the motor out I figure I should take the heads of as well as check the oil pump gears.

    Can't help with your specific question but I have the ARP studs but not yet fitted them.

    When ordering just a word of caution. ARP studs used to be for the old Buick 215 V8 engine and while suitable for the 3.5 they were less suitable for the 4.0 - 4.6 engine.

    They now have a set specifically for the later engines, so when you order make sure you get Rover 3.9L-4.6L V8 W/10 Bolt Heads HSK ARP Part Number 157-4301.

    3/8 UNC for the manifolds, 7/16 UNC for the head bolts, same same since the 1963 Buick version.

    Use taps and dies. Chasers and thread files are primitive. HSS taps and dies cut to a tolerance according to the code on the tool. Carbon steel tools cut to a generic size.

    Many thanks for that I guess it shouldnt surprise me no reason to change it I guess at least my UNC/UNF tap die set still has a life yet.
