How do you test a reversing camera

    Gday All,

Recently acquired the goodies to put a 7' screen and reversing camera in the D3 as per similar to Sheerlucks project.

I wanted to test it before installing and I can get it to work. Instructions are simple enough, I applied power to the camera and using an AV cable connected it but nothing so am unsure if its the camera or the tablet.

So how can I test the camera ? power to it but could I hook it up to a TV with a AV cable ? this should relay a picture of sorts shouldn't it if its working?
I am unsure if the tablet needs something activated to allow the AV feed or if it should just receive it.

    Suggestions ?

    Many thanks

    Cheers Ean

You should be able to power up the camera and put it into any AV, normally yellow I think. Should show up on a TV.

If the tablet was reverse camera specific you should not have to do anything. If not, go to settings or something like that and change it to AV. I have a Navman with AV in. I cant see what is behind me unless I change it to AV in the settings, otherwise it just shows the GPS screen.

You have to have power to both the camera and the tablet in most cases. Some do have an all in one cable from the screen to the camera, so once the screen has power it transfers power also to the camera. It would be a shielded cable with both power and AV plugs coming out at both ends, that would be for a purpose reverse camera/screen combination.

    Hope this helps.

Yep, what he ^ said. Should be able to test the camera into the AV input of a TV or a VCR if you still have one.

Have no clue about tablet settings but what tonic says sounds like something to try.
