2nd battery - mounting inside cab?

Just wondering if there would be any implication to mounting a battery inside the cabin area of a car? I ask as i'm about to buy a Suzuki Jimny (to replace my ageing Sierra) - add a stereo, uhf radio, lights and compressor the electrical system is punching near it's capacity... I want more useable margin.

The factory battery is boxed in nice and tight in the engine bay with little scope for upsizing. And while I could mount a second battery in the engine bay it would require a lot of problem solving, reconfiguring and rearranging to accommodate... only to make the engine bay even tighter. I'd like to avoid that too.

Alternatively, I could mount a second battery in the back where I plan to pull out the rear seats and add a false floor/shelf to make the most of available space. And a low profile battery like an Optima D51R could be hidden under the false floor. That would be ideal.

But i'm not sure if batteries give off fumes, or if there's any other hazards I would need to be wary of. Can anyone offer me some advice on this idea?

Have a bit of a look/search in the discovery2 area.
There have been some folk fitting batteries inside the rear storage bins.
They need to be fully sealed units not lead acid due to the fumes and leakage.
Hopefully someone will be along with some more info as to what type/brand is the best to use.
    Cheers, Kyle

You used the Optima as an example. The Optima (and nodoubt other AGM batteries), as deemed as 'sealed', and quite safe to have in the cabin of a vehicle. Ensure that the battery is well anchored, and protected from impact by sharp objects that could damage the case or short out connectors.

Remember the old VW Beetles used to have lead acid batteries under the rear passenger seat. When the seats got a bit old and saggy, and the terminals weren't insulated by the cardboard cover they came with - a heavy person on the seat would short the battery out. Smoke, heat and sometimes flames ensued - ahh those were the days.
