    Removing Paint from Galvanised Metal

    G'day all!

The galvanised bits on our S2a have been painted over previously. Does anybody have any suggestions on the best way to get them back to galv? Obviously any sort of abrasive method of paint removal would remove the galv itself. Has anybody had any success using chemical means (ie. paint stripper) to remove the paint and leave the galv intact?

    Cheers!
    Michael.

wire wheel in your bench grinder..... Your going to get good at searching the corners of the shed for fasteners

Not much lifts paint in my experiance. Even the toxic chemicals platers use remove everything except paint (rust, dirt, grease...etc). Will paint stripper lift the galvanising

WHen they seed, the pods open up and release a clear jelationus gell than when it got on my trailer striped the paint big time. This was on some sort of gal or zinc sheet....

Have you tried water blasting? it wont lift the galv but if you can get under the paint it might peel.

Brush on paint stripper , cover it with plastic and leave overnight. USe a gerni next day and blast off old paint, but make sure you do it somewhere safe and away from anything that might get damaged from the stripper.

Some paint strippers are caustic and will damage galvanising .Try on a gal mop bucket or something first

Some funny replies, guys! I'll set up a fruit-bat trap first, I think...

Failing that, I have a small pressure washer. I think I'll get some paint stripper and try and test of a piece of galv first, then try applying that if it seems to leave the galv intact.

    Cheers all!
