Generally speaking an Enamel is an oil based paint (water down with turps) and an Acrylic paint is plastic based (watered down by water)
The two do not mix !!!
There is a new product on the market called Aqua Enamel ie Water Based and will not mix with a true Enamel
An Enamel is fairly rigid when dry and tends to flake after years of exposure to the elements, where as an Acrylic tends to go powdery and is much easier to paint over
A hint for paintng. Always look to see what the manufacturers instructions are for watering down or clean up, this will let you know what its base is. Also be sure to soak your brush in either water or turps before painting this will save your brush, make sure you shake it out first though

ops: so figured i'd strip the bike down so i wouldn't get the urge to ride, while it was apart i concocted a very nice red with plenty of pearls, looks great in the sun. Anyway, it's dead bloody easy to do! I don't think i'll paint the olddog in a gloss paint.......too many dents and creases!!! Matt paint hides a lot of it and from 500 yards away it almost looks straight
