Don't worry, it'll settle even lower when he stops.

It took a bit but I've now got the fuel screw settings right and I'm getting around 19.5 at the intake manifold. Ended up maxed on the eccentric control cone and about 720 degrees clockwise on the power adjustment screw after removing the tamper belt tack welded to the thread

I'd like to go higher as it really fair bloody shifts now, but at the end of the day it is a 300Tdi with 330k. I had to move the kickdown cable from hole 4 to hole 3 as well because it felt a bit slippy on changes with a few revs on when the line pressure was low. EGTs are comfortable although will need to test on a few big uphill pulls.

Performance wise, is it a big difference? Could you now overtake other vehicles without a massive run up?
Reason for asking is my bro in law has my old disco and is thinking of re powering it due to being so gutless.

The difference is pretty significant... feels not dissimilar to a 1HDFT cruiser...
It pulls very strongly from 80 km/h with the converter locked up, I would think it should pass easily but time will tell and I'll give it a good test next week.

A manual would possibly give better results. Frankly the torque converter is way to loose.

Well it failed its first towing test today, rather dismally, halfway into a 350 km journey. ****ing not impressed!!

Fortunately I was able to limp it just short of Euroa and pick up my paddock basher 95 D1 V8.

    More later

It boiled over, but like full Chernobyl. This isn't an old beater, the radiator, water pump, hoses and thermostat are all under brand new twelve months old.

Even on the flat with fuelling and boost returned to stock and the heater on flat knacker, first sign of load it starts running seriously hot. I've got a feeling I'm about to join 300Tdi head replacing club.

Thing is, even with low EGT and modest boost it's getting hot so I doubt it's been caused by the VNT.
