What about making a swingaway rear carrier to support the wheel and the jack?
Dave
Hi,
Can anyone give me some feedback on Hi Lift Mounts on Disco's
Mine is a 60" model.
I'm not wanting to put one on the rear door as they weigh too much.
Roof Rack is out as i'm removing it on big trips.
Bull Bar???
Regards
Steve

i've seen them mounted on the inside of the bullbar... or how about on the bonnet, add a few extra tools and go for a REAL Landy look![]()
FOX 2008 RRS - Artemis 1989 Perentie FFR - Phoenix S2a 88" with more - Beetlejuice 1956 S1 86" - GCLRO #001 - REMLR #176
EVL '96 Defender 110 - Emerald '63 2a Ambulance 112-221 - Christine '93 Rangy - Van '98 Rangy - Rachael '76 S3 GS - Special '70 S2a GS - Miss B '86 Rangy - RAAF Tactical 200184 & 200168
on the bonnet means more weight.
the Bull bar sounds best... i'll sus it out...
Problem solved.
I decided to mount it on the Bull Bar.
I thought the only time it will be on the Disco is when i'm heading out.
I wont leave it there when i go shopping ect.
Only headache is the main part hangs infront of the LH Headlight.
My thoughts is the Headlights are crap so the light cant get any worse....
It is mounted via 2 bolts. the Nuts are welded to the Bullbar and when the Jack is removed it is nice and neat, only 2 holes showing...
Anyhow pix are below.

Harold Scruby will have a field day with that. The way you have mounted it, while practical is actually illegal as bullbars can not have protruding sections.
Your Damn Right he will.
As its only on the Disco when i'm going Bush then any pedestrians walking thru the bush who i should hit i'll make sure they are dead and dispose of the body....![]()
Its like the more than 6 forward facing lights.
Illegal but we do it.
I'd never drive around the City with it on as its a BUSH tool i have the bottle jack for City Repairs.
End of the Day it its on the Bar then yes i might skewer somone.
But if i mounted it on the Roof Rack then i might take out some ones Head. Id rather cop a hi lift in the guts than in the head.....
Its hard to find the exact location that all items work well.
ARB believe the Hi lift should be mounted on the Tailgate/Backdoor
But as we are all aware, it is to heavy, then with a 32" tyre that makes a great Hinge killer.
So then your option is roof racks. well if its in the center fine. but getting to it is not easy and if your stuck on a bad angle getting it off is near impossible.
You could pull it all apart and put it inside the back, but once again. Assembly and its a royal PITA to spend time putting it together.
So i went the easier option.
If and when i get in trouble by the local laws i'll change it.
Hi Lifts are not the easiest thing to mount and i'l love to find others idea's

Although its been pointed out how illegal it is to fit the jack there, it will also void your insurance if you have a bingle of any sort (doesnt matter if its a front ender).
I went through the same debacle with my Disco and jack, in the end I got a canvas carry bag and it sits across the back floor. Annoying to passengers, but I dont usually have any in the back anyway. If youre worried about it becoming a missile (like I was), then you can tie it off to the seat mounts with bungy cord.

Hi Volvo 164.
Notice you have a cargo barrier, and that is where I have my hi lift jack mounted behind the seats in front of the barrier, have done some long outback trips and it works fine.
But looking at yours it might be a little longer ...... hi lift jack that is

\"The hurrier I go the behinder I get\"
There is 2 sizes in Highlift. 48" and 60"
I got the larger.
Otherwise yep it would be in the back...
