    Wide hose clamps

Having trouble containing a coolant leak on the top rad hose in my D2,, loverly pink spots everywhere.
I just had the thermostat changed and it looks like the top hose has split a layer where the edge of the clamp sits.
Would a wider type of clamp (Mikalor) stop this?

I would have thought a mikalor would out pressure a screw type clamp any day of the week

I noticed the other day that most of the teams in MotoGP use wire hose clamps. Are they better?

    maybe quicker to remove.
in my game, a maker of aircraft engines with a formula 1 production background uses two normal hose clamps on most hoses, and never the hose clamps that have the thread cut through the clamp.

pedro, if you can, use two clamps until you fit the new bit.

Undo clamp .. Cut 20mm? off end of hose .. Clean thermostat housing ... wipe some Holimar 3 around the housing ... install hose and reposition original clamp on a fresh area of the hose.

    Cheers

Thibknof the clanpnas working like tyre pressure.

The thin wire clamps. Provide better sealing compression, the thick hose clamps provide more pressure oveallthe bolt upnjobbies like those pictures can deliver so Mich pressure that they crush the alloy or plastic housing ontonwhich you are trying to clamp.

The downside to this is the wire clamps can cut into the hose fracturing the laminations. The thick ones may not put enough point compression onto the rubber to cause it to seal correctly.
