My viscous dying?
Hi guys, today I did the test paper and saw the viscous stop spinning with ease while the engine temperature was at 94 ° C. This temperature would not be normal if the viscous being "stuck".

Read some posts from other threads and it seems right to me the fact the engine cool down at idle. but that's not what happens to me. at idle the temperature rises to 95 ~ 96 ° while riding with 2000 rpm motor temperature drops to 90 °. Another question I have is if the viscous coupling depends on the thermostat or not.

The viscous fan coupling is controlled by a bi-metallic spring on the front. It only engages when hot enough air has passed through the radiator to heat the spring and make it move the vane inside. 94C is not particularly hot compared with the thermostat opening temp, so I would not expect the coupling to be fully locked at that stage. But yes, it could be worn out, try moving a fan blade forwards and backwards to feel if there is any sloppiness. There should be very little movement.

Hello,
I had the same problem it would rise to what you are saying I fitted a new fan and now I hear it roar when the motor is getting warm and at start up some times now sitting at the lights it only rises a couple of degrees, How old is your motor ?? as it might be good idea to do the thermostat as well. A new fan would be a good idea.

Thank bee. I am providing a new viscous although this did not wear forward and backward.
