    Anyone fitted a transmission cooler to their auto tdi disco

    looking at fitting a transmission cooler to mine as it gets quite hot when under load without a trailer and i am about to start using a trailer so would like to prevent any problems before they occur

    anything to watch out for?

    any pics of your setup ?

    Have it checked by someone with some real expertise. It should not be getting hotter than normal under normal load let alone with a trailer in tow. It already has an excellent cooler attached. Towing a three tonne van in extreme conditions should have little if any effect. I know, because I do it regularly. By the way, when was it last serviced? Another test is to sample the fluid and have it analysed by a group like Monitor at http://www.e-monitor.com.au/ - that will tell you a little more about the condition of things inside. Mine is a TD5 but the TDi should not be much less reliable.

    I bought a trans cooler from Bendigo Tojo 12 or 18 months ago for my Toy.(its still in its box ops
    These are The heavy duty genuine Holden trans oilcooler for 6 and V8 Dunnydoores (and TOJO Lexans) I paid around $70 including postage.To get the same size cooler from Supaturd etc is around $250.
    Could be worth phoning them to see if they sold them all.

    nothings dragging and the auto was serviced 12 months ago. have no problems with get up and go just the box smelling hot after 60 or 70 mile hauls. the steel at the bottom of the t-bar get that hot you can hardly keep a finger on it.

    it is going in to get looked at next week as it has started blowing the dip stick out of the tube so a breather must be blocked or something else is amiss.

    will see, just gotta find someone round this part of the world that has a clue...

    Not too familiar with the Landy auto setups,but I assume there is the normal oil cooler in the radiator setup?????????
    In normal cars/4WDs(Im not suggesting yours is ABnormal [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img] [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]) the oil cooler in the radiator actuall performs 2 tasks,to cool the oil when hot,but also very importantly to warm the oil to engine temp at what its designed to run.At 80-90 deg I guess it would be too hot to hold with your fingers.Probably yours is NORMAL,an extra oil cooler is a very good idea if you do anything more than drive on sealed roads,auto's get real hot in soft sand/mud due to the "slippage" thats designed into the system ie tourque converter.
    I would say a good cooler is a MUST on any real off-roader.
