    98 Disco ZF Auto whine

    Gday all... Just wondering if anyone here has experienced a high speed (ie over 70kmh) whine in the auto (or transfer case) of their ZF equipped Disco's... It happens to mine (98 Disco 105k) only under moderate, cruising acceleration and disappears when no accelerator is applied. Yesterday I changed the oil in both diffs but am yet to change the transmission fluid or xfer case fluids... Am not sure if this is a common thing that should be ignored or if its terminal... Its not very loud but it is noticeable... Any ideas??

    ZF box whine

    Hi Robb,

    Not sure if this helps or not but my '95 Tdi disco ZF seems to whine a bit when decelerating, especially when braking when preparing to stop at an intersection etc.

    Unsure if it is the auto or transfer box or even something else entirely.

    i had a whine that i was sure was the transfer case,
    but on this occasion it turned out to be a rear wheel bearing!
    it was doing exactly what you described.

    i have a s1 v8 disco with 230 thou on the clock, i change the oil
    every 20 thou. these are strong auto's you shouldnt have a
    problem with them ever.

    And if it gets too noisy for the short term, stick a banana skin in the offending part or change to really thick oil. [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif[/img]

    Yours did the same thing? The sus thing about mine is, the souinds disappears when no load is applied. I would have thought that the wheel bearings would whine with and without accelerator... Anyway, i will check it out. I will give Brian at Land Vehicle Spares a call tomorrow and see if he can diagnose it by description... Thanks guys!
