Too soft you D4 owners, it is a landy at heart after all!. A bit of tar adds to the character Andrew. - and stops corrosion!

Just wax and grease remover or prepsol if you go by brand names we have a paint shop at work and this is what they use works a treat and safe for paint... id be careful using eucalyptus oil or anything like that might attack the paint.... diesel or wd will do it but then u got to clean the oily mess.

All fixed. Got some prep sol equivalent in a spray can and all fixed in no time. Bought spray pack as it was going to be easier and used the whole can. Gave the car a good clean and then some wax on the areas I'd cleaned.

As others have said, Kero is DEFINITELY the go. Other substances can be too hard on paint & damage it.
A light massaging with kero ( let the kero soak in & soften it) will soften the tar, continued gentle rubbing will get rid of it.
    The secret is "gently gently".
