Thank you all for the replys.
I am thinking about maybe getting a defender possibly next year in preparation for a big lap around Asutralia.I think it would be better tham my Series2a for a trip like this. But I am happy with the 2a at the moment.
A workshop with a dyno machine has opened up locally here so for a laugh I put the 2a on the dyno, had to pay of course. The other guys hanging around the workshop were having a good chuckle when they saw the landy on the dyno especially when they realised it was putting out a huge 38.7 H.P. at the wheels But it was a good test of the engine, it is working well except for a little fuel problem making it run a little lean. It seems the problem might be in the fuel pump.

The clutch isn't actually lighter, but the pedal box incorporates a different spring which provides assistance once you push it down past about 1/2 way. You can get a 300tdi pedal box and fit to you 200tdi for the same result.

    Yeah but there's no point.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

On the Disco at least, the turbo set-up is different. On the 200, the turbo is independent of the exhaust manifold, but in the 300 it's an intergrated unit. Makes a difference if you're considering modifying the turbo (by several $100's).

I think the radiator set-up might be different too, as is the alternator, water pump etc.

    Cheers,

    Gordon

Are the 200 in Defenders and Disco Diff in the way the Timing belt runs?
it seems the 200tdi defender has its injector pump really low??

Yes 200tdi Defender is quite different to the 200tdi Disco at the front of the engine. The main difference to the run of the timing belt is the lack of a separate idler pulley on the defender.

Yep, just sussed that one out...
Disco 200 has an idler and Tensioner
Defender 200 has only a tensioner.

    Same belt.

prices are not cheap in Aust.....

Other difference to consider between the Disco & Defender 200tdi:

Water pump - completely different item
Alt/Fan belt & PAS belt- Disco belt does crank/fan/PAS. PAS pump has doule pulley for a second belt to alt. Defender belt does crank/fan/alt. Crank has extra pulley to do PAS alone. Obviously, mountings for PAS pump and alt. are completely different.
