    Optima Yellowtop Failure

Was wondering why my deep cycle battery was misbehaving over the last couple of weeks. Had a look at the voltage this morning - 8 volts, better charge it up...
The negative terminal has corroded right through.

It's about 6 years old so I guess I can't complain too much but it lives under the plastic cover on the D3 so it isn't mechanical failure.

Sorry but cant help with alternative reasons, but overcharging or gassing at terminal sound likely ... but can supply your next one!

Hmm, I had an Optima yellow Top die ( well be very sick) at 3 years of age.
I discovered that it was leaking out of the negative terminal .
    Seems eerily the same.

AFAIK the alternator was charging correctly usually at 13.9 when warm.

I must admit this was 15 years ago, and I just now have come back for more with a Blue top as my starting battery.
