Thread: Series 3 Repair or Replace Petrol Tank

Hi All

My S3 I am restoring has the large, I think 65L, which I would like to keep.

However both sides of the tank where the tank butts up to the outriggers are badly rusted and I am concerned that down the line, even though I will paint it with a rust inhibitor, it could fail as I do not know how badly the tank is rusted, or how thin the metal is in the area.

My question is, can I have someone cut out the 2 sides and weld in new panes, is it legal, and also , if I can go that route, can someone recommend someone on the Gold Coast who can do the job for me.

I am also looking for a mobile welder who can do some chassis work for me.
