Just a Defender 'thang'.
Mine has a 120ltr tank and it comes on when it hits 3/4 empty....still hundreds of Kms to go.
You just get use to it.
I'm just have a bit of trouble with the gauge in my 90 reading properly.
When the warning light comes on it still takes 20lts of fuel and when its empty it takes 10. Although its good to conservative, its a little painful having the light on for the last 200kms of the tank.
Is this just a defender thing? Has anyone else had any hassles?

I'd be getting a new sender unit - especially if it’s still under warrantyOriginally posted by LROV90

Thanks guys! LRO have already replaced the gauge (which I didn't really think would be the problem) so it looks like they can try the sender next! I was just wondering if it was one of those things that will never get fixed!!
I have never seen my light on and the guage has been down to empty.
So either mines broken (but where / how ?) or accurate.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

my light comes on when theres still about ten litres left in the tank.
about 100 kms.
it takes about 400 kms from full to half, 100kms from half to 1/4, and about another hundred till the light comes on after that.
if i was to run it dry i should get about 700 kms to the 75 litres
Mine starts flashing at about 500 or so klms so theoretically should have about 200 to go. But I never let it flash for long just in case! Don't fancy the trouble of getting the thing going again after running dry.
Alan.
When I had the standard tank mine came on with about 100km to go. Since installing the Longranger it comes on with about 150km to go.
Same sender unit just a little bigger in the tank I guess. If yours is coming on so soon I would think it needs adjusting or replacing.
Cheers Tyrepower.
I have had 6 90 Defenders and not one has been the same when it comes to the feul gauge
On my 90 it will go down to the red and then run out, light comes on just before the red , But my wifes 90 will go all the way the other side of the red and still be going and the red light still not on
Best way to see is where the gauge sits when you fill it right up to the brim
My 90 sits just past the full level on the gauge, But the misses sits under the full level on the gauge
