2.4 tdci Puma cuts out when cold idling

2008 'Puma' defender 130. Unless in a particular hurry, I run the engine for 5 minutes or so before driving when cold; e.g. while I gather my gear for work etc. Yesterday morning after working night shift, I started the engine and left it to idle for a few minutes while I got changed and gathered my stuff to come home. Came out to the car and it had stopped. Started it up again while I went back for another armful of stuff, came back out and it had stopped again. This was after sitting outside overnight, not a particularly cold night. Also happened one time the previous morning while preparing to leave for work at about 5:10 a.m.
It developed this habit about a year ago, then hasn't done it for a long while. Last year when it was happening, the vehicle actually cut out while driving when cold on a couple of occasions if I had not warmed it up.
I haven't had a chance to read the fault codes as yet, but wondering if there is a particular sensor or something that will cause this problem.

Had similar problems with my 2010 130 ute not to long ago. At the start it would only cut out once, maybe twice a week just after start up. Then it even cut out a few times whiles driving, which was a bit of a worry. I ended up replacing my ignition barrel, apparently there have been a few dramas with them causing this problem. It's been 2 weeks now and I have not had a problem since. Hope this helps..
