Interchangable Parts

Seems to be a lot of parts out there that are interchangable with L/R.
Lets try and keep the spam to a minimum on this, and post what could be a cheaper way to replace damaged or worn parts.
Cheers Tyrepower.

Well this is proberly more us in the Uk than in Aus
After all the Disco is the same running gear as the Range rover.
Also alot of the bits can be changed from 90/110 to Range Rover
As for internal this is where it get difficult in Aus i think
The rear lights on a Disco are the same as Meastro vans, Metro car
As the same for the stalks on the steering cloum
Early 110 door handles (inside ) are the same on early 80's rover cars . The classic crap thing the allegro
The alternator on a 3.5 V8 is the same on the Rover Metro

There is more but is this what you are thinking

Fortunately, none of those cars were ever sold in Australia.

For Range Rover owners, some of this info can be found at http://rangerovers.net

I have replaced mine with a Ford XD, alternator Not any problem other than getting the pickup point for the tacho put in. You can also get them boosted up in output if you require

Picked up a Sigma/Bosch 80 amp unit, fitted the tacho output myself, 5000+k`s later no probs.
The tacho bit ---Remove regulator, then the rear housing look inside rear housing,2 bare wires about 50 mm long cross the insulator plate, select the one nearest regulator aperture, solder on to this about150mm of 4mm insulated cable feed it out thru the rear housing ,fasten it out of harms way with zip ties, reassemble the alternator solder on to this wire a corresponding connector for your tacho wire..fit her up and Bob`s yer uncle. Remember to refit the filter capacitors from your original!

I am running a Bosch 85 Amp. The alternator is basically a Commodore V6 (rear casting, stator, rotor and regulator) but with a "universal" front Bosch casting (from a Magna). This allows it to fit the existing bracket without any mods. The tacho line comes off any of the three stator windings before the diode.

I have a South African Bosch which my local auto elec added the tacho wire to . I think it cost $180. It has universal mounts so you can mount it to the original bracket. You may have to extend the adjuster.
One thing to think about if you are anal like me is that the pulleys are always bigger than the Lucas and you cant easily fix it. Your tacho will be out. i had a friend with a lathe turn down the solid pulley which came with the alternator.
Also , if you can wait and can use a soldering iron, you can get the diode pack and regulator cum brush holder for the lucas from UK for about $150. I have done that and keep the lucas as a spare. I am referring to a 92 with Lucas/Magneto Marelli .

OK.... Some Volvo parts fit... sadly the quality will be better.....
Uni's are the same.. (not the students...)
V6 Alternators fit the 200tdi's but no tacho output. 110amp also.

Disco door handles, same as Morris Marina
