    Question Discovery1 Differential Dilemma

    Hi,
I would love to know whether the rear diffs on a series 1 V8 disco (93) and series 1 diesel disco (97) are identical and can be swapped. Any advice would be appreciated.

    Cheers

Check the axle splines, there was a change from 10-spline to 24-spline somewhere around there, might fall between these two models. Easiest way to check would be to pull the half-shaft on the short side. Pretty sure there will be no difference in the diff centres if the axle splines are the same.

If the 93 is a 3.9V8 then good chance it will be 24 spline, 3.5 i would say they are 10 spline so wont fit.
Have a look in the markets here as there are always D1's being wrecked.

    Disco Diff

I found when swapping my 93 disco diffs (24 spline) over to the 94 that the 94 diff flange, where the diff centre bolts into the housing is thicker and the studs in the earlier housing weren't long enough to fit the 94 centre in the 93 housing, might pay to check, Regards Frank.

There's 2 (or is it 4?) studs at the 9 & 3 o'clock positions that need to be changed.

If I remember correctly that's right, ended up getting some studs from an unused diff housing, they are like wheel studs they knock out from the front through splines, Regards Frank.
