Discovery designation question

The new big Discovery is a Discovery3. I know this probably sounds a bit dumb but what are the designations of models before? I have a 93 (1), but had a 95 with the update grille and dash and a 3.9V8. Then there were two version of the the next etc. Comments anyone?

Cheers,

Can't tell you the specific dates, but you had

Discovery 1 - The original and best
Discovery 2 - Had new body panels, TD5 and a bigger tail behind the axle
Discovery 2 Update - had the new style rangie headlights
Discovery 3 - What you see on the net, will get here eventually
1994 Discovery TDi
2004 Discovery 2 TD5
2010 Discovery 4 TDV6

Discovery 1 covers both the original, and the update that arrived in March 94. These two are usually distinguished by their diesel engines as either 200 or 300. Discovery 2 was the model that arrived with the TD5 and the slightly longer body overall that was developed to allow the third row seats to face forwards, instead on inwards as on Discovery 1.

Some people have mentioned in the past the we should refer to the original (200tdi) as Series 1, the update (300tdi) as Series 1a, and Td5 as Series 2 (which it is). Seems to makes sense in that perculiar Landrover way.

Disco versios

Thanks, kinda thought that way, but at the time they made a fairly big noise about the the '1a'. Having owned both, while they're the same they're also quitte different. Had the 1a first and now have 93 V8 '1' 5 door auto.
Someone here said the original and the best. Which brings me to a philosophical question about the new D3. Three tonnes rolling for a Disco, no aluminium and supersized? Like to hear some real world experiences with the new D3.

Cheers, GQ
