    Mechanics ??!!

Hi all, sometimes when I read posts about mechanical issues or people trying to service their own vehicles at home I'm amused to constantly read about the mechanic that must have touched something last time therefore making it impossible for the home mechanic to complete a job they set out to do. I've been a Land Rover mechanic for over 20 years and won't mention the amount of people that I have helped teach, service and maintain their own Land Rover at home and the many and varied calls I've had on my phone resulting in explanations of the correct way to do things to get someone out of trouble. If I have made a successful living doing this as any others do do you think it's right that someone who passionately loves land rovers like I do has the right to blame " the mechanic who touched it last time"? I mean I'm all for its your car learn it, love it, give it a go fix it yourself, but really critique the people who not only can fix and repair your model but know the ins and outs of every Land Rover model. Sorry rant over but sometimes give us guys a break who do it all day every day for the people who can't do it themselves and for those problems that really do require a real specialist to rectify.

hmmm....while I don't get paid to fix cars, I do swing spanners on other stuff and sounds like a lot is the same.

Trying to salvage parts (at customers request) that should be binned......then being asked for warranty when they break cause its only been a few months....and the invoice is dated 3ys ago......

Free crystal ball diagnosis service via the phone....

Free advise/design on building their project, with part numbers, so they can buy the bits elsewhere.......

Free diagnostics on stuff they have built themselves using components they have already been told wouldn't work.......

Countless free 5min jobs.....then baulk at paying for an hour or 2's labour when its really needed.......

those who had a go at it 1st themselves...

and the really fun, those that had a go at it themselves 1st, put it back together wrong/lose parts, but don't say anything......

I often blame the 'dickhead that did that' when working on my cars, but as I'm the only one that works on them, everyone within earshot knows who I'm talking about...
