Disco 2 V8 Oil Leaks
My 99 Series 2 Disco has just had 80k service along with Radiator and Valley/Roccker Cover gasket replacements to reduce the number of oil spots on my driveway. Dealer tells me that it is not unusual to need head gaskets done at 100km. Can anybody else comment. :?:

The 99 has a 4litre engine with composite gaskets.
It is not unusual for Rover motors to need head gaskets at 100,000 KM for various reasons. It is far worse with older 3.9 with tin head gaskets.
One of the key issues is whether the car has been boiled or overheated at any time. If so the heads usually warp slightly, and the heads may leak water at either end. This happened to my 3.9 Range Rover.
BUT you may go for 200,000 without a problem. If it starts to blow out water, leak water, Have a lot of condensation in the exhaust, miss when cold, ,
or a compression test shows one or two down, then fix it quickly.
