    My jackal jack is sick.

I've had a jackal jack for maybe thirty years, got it from John Chapman when OME was the go, way back when we all pleyed in the mud at Catalina doing all sorts of 'crosses'.

I think these days they're hi-lift jacks, and it's got a small prob. The bottom pin won't engage, unless I put my foot on it and push, which probably is not a great idea.

I know I'll have to pull it apart and fix it, which doesn't worry me, anyone got some clues or tips?

    Thanks guys,

    Cheers, Graham Quigley

I fixed a mate's hilift jack a while back by pulling out the two sliding pins, filing and emerying them to make them smooth again, putting them back in and lubricating the whole thing. They have to slide in and out freely for the thing to work properly. Check the cast parts they slide though too, including the stand. You have to go pretty easy on the lube because you don't want it to attract too much dirt but you still need some lube. The hilift website <http://www.hi-lift.com/> has a downloadable manual which is mostly warnings but has a few tips on maintaining the jack. It says they do a repair kit which includes two new sliding pins. I am presuming here that jackall and hilift are the same (or very similar) jack. It's been some years since I saw a jackall (Canada 1991).

i also have a jackall about that old, twas my dads. only about 3-3 1/2 foot tall. back when a lifted rover was the one on the jack. i believe the jackall had some forged parts over the cast ones on the hi-lift brand. mine doesn't like jacking down, but its never been serviced and gets used about once a year at home. just stripp it down clean, file any rough edges and away you go. they are very simple units. mabe the springs need replacing
    cheers, serg
