not good news mate!
how did this happen?
Guys, after having my transfer case cook itself literally, I am in the need of all of the gears! Does anyone know where to source these parts, and the trade prices for them???
Rock Crawl low range gears
Rest of the gears for the transfer case (I presume the high range and the input cluster)
Bearing and seal kit for the transfer case
Other parts I require
Maxi-Drive Front and Rear Diff Lockers
Maxi-Drive Front and Rear Bearing and Axle Upgrade Kit
Strengthened Steering Track Rod (bent mine really bad)
Cheers and thanks in advance
Chris

Not quite sure mate. I did a front uni-joint just before the Oodnadatta Track, so I had to drive it in CDL for the length of it and into Alice Springs. Then because of a stuff up with the mechanic who decided that front propshafts get pressed together I had to continue on in rear wheel drive. Did the overnight run staraight through from Alice to Katherine, but only made it Larrimah when the tracfer case literally went bang!
Pulled it apart last week to find a molten mess of burred gears and the prospect of replacing everything. Looked for signs of leaking and can't really pinpoint anything definate.
The only thing I can think of is running it in CDL for over 2000km's, whilst loaded up with a 6 x 4 trailer on the back end loaded as well!
And to rub insult to the wound, I bent the front diff bracket that protects the steering track rod and scrubbed out two relatively brand new MT's! So a bit of a pain in the bum at the moment.
The old girl has made it to 380k now days, so I am looking at doing a few upgrades to make sure she keeps going. Hence why the extra parts above. The old axles and spiders are starting to go on it, and the movement in the turbo is starting to scare me. Would also love to put in after-market air-con now that we are up here, but it's a matter of sourcing everything. Fitting is the easy part unfortunately!
Cheers
Chris
Sounds like you need a beer 8O
what a bugger !!!!!!!!! your bright spark of a mechanic didnt perhaps drain the TC to check it before you left?
On the other hand try FWD for the gears but they can be expensive. Another one would be British Off Road at the big pineapple or maybe Andersons. From memory the Maxi Drive stuff is getting hard to find.

BTW, thanks for that tip about FWD, will try and see if they have a website now!
I hadn't heard MaxiDrive stuff was getting hard to find. Contact Mal Storey at MaxiDrive in Qld -

I guess you could try there.
Dunno 'bout your side of the world but if you wanted to have a look at the UK market then check out these guys:
http://www.ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk/ for the transfer box bits.
http://www.qtservices.co.uk/ For a strengthened track rod assy. IIRC, his design fits over the existing rod, you pack it with grease and then it'll roll off any rock/obstacle that you run into.
