Your throttle cable isn't adjusted properly..
Looking for a bit of direction with my disco...got everything sorted out to get the thing running, goes well actually. But there is a few idiosyncrasies which I've come across...
1: the star wheel in the ip under the diaphragm is wound all the way down.
2: the diaphragm is at the steepest setting, dot towards the front of the car
3: only a short puff of black smoke on kickdown on acceleration not under load...
4: no smoke or a little white smoke on cold start up
5: full throttle not touching maximum engine speed screw, maximum revs approx 3800
6: idles at 750rpm beautifully
Full service valve lash and timing belts just done...
Is this normal...I've run out of adjustments and need guidance...

And the other most important setting, correct plunger lift/ timing. Factory is 1.54mm @tdc, you can set it to 1.6mm to increase performance. There should be no white smoke, ever.

The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈
My bad...it's black smoke on startup looked white through my tint...😝...
Are these plunger adjustments doable in the driveway
Depends on how well stocked your tool box is.
for instance, You could do it on my driveway but you probably couldn't do it on my mums.

Pmsl...I have tools for basic mechanical work as in Chevy/motorbikes etc but no specialist equipment...tried google but can't find a step by step...is it straight forward to do
from working on chevs,
if you can dial in a cam using a DTI on the lobes to read the lift heights before adjusting the cam shafts angle markers start and end positions, identifying the position of maximum lift before offsetting the cam gear to the cam to set your vavles timing relative to the crank then you can do the plunger lift on the tdi, the concept of what you are doing is similar but the execution is different.
there are some online how tos on how to but if you can get the parts break down and operational outline of how the pump works you can nut it out from there.

Cool will try and find a good guide...just don't want to duff it as my D1 v8 is ruthless on fuel as a daily.
So no specialised tools required
just the dti, mount and the narrow probe for getting to the plunger
