Hummer has inboard brakes, but the portals solve the clearance issues.

My pennies worth, I had a bx years back and it nearly killed me as the pump belt broke on my way to work and it lost pressure in the system = no brakes:o I was grateful for the pathetic hand brake on the front wheels to slow me before I mounted the roundabout I was coming up to:p By a cruel twist I ended up working for a citroen specialist years later and got the hang of spannering them, the later xantias were much better designed and all the customers raved how comfy they were.

The new ones are just glorified Peugeot's, so the brakes are separate to the hydraulics now.
