D3 Transfer Case

Does anyone know what transfer case is being used in the new Disco 3?

Has this been built by ZF like the gearbox or has it been mated to an existing/evolved LR box?

    Thanks

    I'm guessing a derivative/evolved.

They never seems to show us from underneath new vehicles in photos however there appears to be no transfer lever in the centre console. All the control is done by switches and Terrain Response dial on the dash, even for diff lock.

Guess we just have to wait for someone to find one and stand on their head to have a look for us.

    Noddy,

the Transfer Case used in the D3 is made by Magna Steyr, an Austrian company. It's model code is - DD295.

The DD295 is a two speed, permanent four wheel drive transfer box which has synchronised shift on the move facility with an actively controlled wet clutch and 50/50 torque split across the centre differential.

It has a 2500Nm torque capacity.

I hope that answers your question

    Hi Noddy,

    no worries mate

Although the parts fitted to our vehicles are built to Land Rover's & Ford's specifications - almost all of them are sourced from external suppliers.

All the major power train components fitted to our new vehicles are made outside of the Solihull factory now.

Gone are the good old days of making everything in-house!!

    Cheers.

Having gear sourced externally is not such a bad idea, especially when you have specialists in those fields. Just the same as any other business.

The only problem is keeping control of the intellectual property so that you don't become totally reliant on the supplier.
