Window Tinting - Removal and Replacement ?

The window tinting in my Range Rover is getting to that age where there a few bubbles trying to make themselves known and there is a wave/distortion in some of the windows as the tint is lifting slightly.

Keeping in mind the rear window has the demister etc that I don't (of course) wnat to damage, what is the best way to remove the tint ? Would a tint place do this job ?

When it comes to new tint, can anyone recommend a place that will offer a good quality tint :?:

(Naturally, I'm after the darkest one legally possible but it must be a UV filtering / stopping one).

I'm in Brisbane northern suburbs area.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

vlad,
ive just tinted the windows in DW myself, its not to hard,
just a bit frustrating!!!!

the easiest way i found to get the tint off is to peel it off,
this leaves the old glue. now for this get a cheep bottle
of window cleaner and a packet of disposable rasors.
spray the window let it sit for 5min then shave it off.
you might have to modify the rasor by cutting the bottom
plastic edge off, so the blade is on the glass.

dont use this method on the demister like i did on my old dunnydoor
all it dose is removes the element, and no more workies for him :?

by law i think that t35 is the darkest, cuts out 35% of incomming light.

for your other questions im not too sure? most places will
give you a warranty for there work.

just rembered i do have a mate who owns a tint place at cooparoo.
Ill get back to you with details!

cheers phil

A razor blade and patience is the way vlad. Once you get one corner pealed off scrape the rest with the razor (on all windows but the rear) if any of the sticky crap is left behind dab metho on a peice of paper towel and rub it over the window.

For the back window, peel it of like DW said and use metho to get the sticky crap off, the metho wont corrode the element either. Matt

I had the windows tinted in my Rangie soon after I got it. I shopped around Brisbane and found by far the best value ( where quality intersects with price) was at Instant Windscreens.

They did a high spec metallic tint, darkest legal, 99% UV, 55% heat, 10yr guarantee fully installed for $295.

For all the stuffing around, its worth checking with them (or whoever) to find out the additional cost of removal. They probably have some toxic chemical the use and it just falls off.

Hope it helps

Hi adm33,

I am looking at getting the disco done soon, what location was the Instant Windscreens you went to and was it 3M film that they used, that is a reasonable price, what sort of job did they do?

Regards Glen.

Ditto those questions.

seqfisho - perhaps we could work together and get an additional discount for getting two cars done....

Vlad -- word of caution when getting new tint.

My old Rangie had the radio antennae embedded into the glass of the window. Make sure that whoever does the tinting knows this and uses and appropriate tint that will not cause radio interference. From memory some of the mettalic tint will cause problems.

All the best

Good point noddy, mine has this too on the RH rear and also on the tailgate a seperate one to the demister, dunno what that does?

Good thinking Vlad, maybe you could be the guinea pig, and if it all works ok I'll get mine done

Only jokin, that sounds like a good idea, mite be able to get a few bucks off, we should all try this sort of thing over the site as it is possible to make some good savings at times, ie accessories repairs parts etc

Regards Glen.

BTW Vlad, was over your way on the w/end but didnt see you cruising round in the limo? hope its not off the road for any reason.

What other tints are there, aside from metallic ?

Dave - where's the aerial on your Rangie ? In the glass ? If so, did you have any problems with it ? And what tint was used ?

Glen - while you were cruising down my way I was probably at Inc's place.
