    G'day Quiggers,

Basically, I used to have a 1996 TDI Auto Disco that was too nice to scratch - this was sold and I bought a Scooby and a old RR.

The original 3.5 EFI V8 was lacking power and I was going to replace it with a 3.9 EFI V8 from a late model Disco, however while at the VIC 4WD show at Wandin I saw a panel damaged TDI Auto Disco that was on Ritters stand - to show that they wreck late cars.

I thought nothing of it, however while lying in my swag next morning plans developed. SO from leaving Melbourne on the drive back to Sydney the convoy started talking about a RR TDI project, and by the time I got to Sydney I had basically bought the Disco!!!

So I now have hopefully the reliability of a late model Disco 1 but the bashability of the older RR.

    Hope this makes sense?

But as to whether we actually got 200 or 300TDi RRs here in AUS, I'm not really sure - I'd like to hear from someone who'd know (I made my own from a 95Disco).
    G'day Tiny,

I was going to contact you via email and ask you about the Air Con you used!!!

Did you install the AC into you RR? If so, which components did you use?

I've thinking about using the compressor / vapouriser / new drier from the Disco but the remaining parts from the RR? - this possible?

You've actually got me just as I was about to look at solving that issue this weekend. I'm basically using the RR components other than the AC compressor itself. I've not actually plumbed it yet (some piping connections need to be re-made) so I'll let you know if I run into any probs.

I haven't connected the vacuum reservoir for the heater control either. One option is to connect this to the brake vacuum line. I'm a little unsure whether this will compromise the vacuum for the brakes, so I'll also look to find suitable connection on the inlet manifold side of the engine before I do this. Another option is to buy a separate vacuum pump - but that means more electrical connections and I'm not sure I really want that.

You have been a busy boy LRH. So you are swapping the axles from the disco to the RR, are the RR diffs not suitable, is it because of ratio? Matt

nope - cos the Disco ones are the 24 spline, whereas my RR ones were 10 spline.

The final vehcile - Land Rover ReDiscovery will use the chassis and body from the RR but all the mechanicals of the Disco.

I am currently working out how to fit a Disco interior into the ReDiscovery also.
