Thread: Disco V8 questions

Where are you guy's buying your filters? I was only paying around $20 from a dealer and $10-14 from other non genuine Rover parts suppliers. I have been using Coopers and Crosslands which are as good as LR genuine. I have noticed that a lot of LR service centres are using Copper filters now. The good thing was these filters fitted the V8 and the tdi. Stupid me then got rid of the tdi and got a TD5 a different filter altogether. As for the talk of replacing air flow meters down the track, why would you bother. Chuck these piece of crap hinderances and fit a decent ecu such as Wolf, Haltech, Motec and do away with the air flow and have control over the settings.

was in my local kmart today and a ryco Z9 filter is $6 something...
and the valvoline ones were not much more..

Just replaced the Vac advance unit and adjusted the timing (Graeme Cooper) and WOW this thing is so much more responsive, do not know about fuel consumpsion yet but I am sure it will be improved as well, I will post the result when I know.

I've kept good records of fuel consumption for many years and I think its just something I do to keep myself amused on long trips is to see how far I can go on a tank. When fuelled I always fill to the top, which takes a bit of time but is accurate for readings, later.

The 600k figure was from North Sydney to a fuel stop at Glen Innes where the then newish 95 Rossignol (about 10,000ks) took on 71 litres.

Later on the same run, I fuelled at Noosa and travelled 697ks to refuel, where the full load was 82 litres, must have been running on vapours.

My current 93 3.5 recently did Alstonville (near Ballina) to Raymond Terrace where it took 66 litres. I think I'm a lightfoot on the go pedal.

eg Back when I moved up here from Syd, the Falcon Ed was packed with moving stuff and towing a box trailer weighing a total of about 800kgs.

I filled the wagon in Chatswood Sydney and made it to my new home without refuelling. (Had a jerrycan full just in case). And a bit the next day, total about 780ks. Falcon took 74 litres.

I don't coast and I avoid the brake pedal if poss. The pads in the Falcon have been in for 180,000 ks.

The Disco pads were changed 33,000 ks ago (how easy is that, proper brakes!) and while I haven't scientifically measured them there still heaps of meat on all.

I just take it easy, which seems to keep my overall maintenance bill way down, touchwood.

NT is really bad for V8's,, did a 10 hour day to get to Alice, Ayres, Kings, etc,
1200 klms in 10 hours,, not bad !!! try that Diesel Dogs!! [img]style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.gif[/img]

I track fuel and milage as well. Feb. run home from Bendigo (400K's) was 66l on unleaded, 16.98l/100k's. Last trip this week ran BP Ultimate, home trip was 61l, 15.25l/100k's. Runs better, more responsive when passing (how responsive can a slug get?) price difference saved a dollar! Currently paying 115.9ULP and 122.9Ultimate.(i mean the boss is paying luckily). Fuel light comes on around 430k's on a trip so 500k's on a tank would be possible but 600 i would need a tail wind all down hill Neautral.

I just got back from a trip to Dubbo zoo and then across to Yamba and back to Brisbane. The trip went like this, Brisbane-Warwick to Gundy down the Newel to Dubbo for the zoo, then a quick day run to Parkes to look at the Dish. From Dubbo back up to Coonabarabran across to Tamworth and Glen innes. Grafton and then to the the Blue Dolphin at Yamba for a few days then back to Brisbane today. My v8 averaged between 17L - 18.5L per 100k towing the Jayco Swan camper (around 1250kg I reckon), Dad's TDi didn't go over 13 towing his 5.2m Coromal Seka poptop.There was a good deal of hill climbing in this and I was often in 4th and 3rd and even got to 2nd twice. I was talking to some blokes at Yamba with new Prado 4.0l V6 cars and they were all using over 20L/100 while towing one bloke was using well over 25L towing his Big Jayco Heritage and wasn't going over 95kph, no wonder they come with a 180l fuel tank!

Have a 95my V8 (May 94) from new and maintained fuel records the whole time. Best fuel at a steady 110km/hour on a flat expressway was 13l/100km - worst is 24l/km towing a car between Sydney and Canberra on the highway - usually get about 18-20l/100 km around town and 15l/100km on the expressways with cruise control on. (450km per tank in town - about 520km on the road).

My diesel Freelander gives between 8-9l/100km everywhere!!
