Paul thanks he found the chissi No. but not the engine No.
this is where i thought the engine No. was and is what i told the bloke at the inspection place but he still couldn't find it 8O is there anywhere else it could be.

i am currently 300km's from the car so might have to wait till tomorrow when i get back

engine no should be stamped on drivers side cylinder block above the camshaft front cover plate.

Sure its a Tdi ?

TD5 - LH side of cylinder block below exhaust manifold.

4BD1 - passenger side of engine block either below the front welsh plug, in the head above the front side plate, or between the passenger side engine mount and starter motor.

thanks for the help. i had a look this morning and it took me all of a few seconds to find it. it was exactly where everyone had said 8O on the d/s of the block. i have no idea on how these people get their tickets to do pit inspections if they cant find an engine number :? anyhow i now have the paper work to transfer the rego to act.
