Oilchange day

Hi Guys
I gave the 109 a good service today, changed all the oils and water.Needed doing, there was water in the rear diff, quite bad ops: ops: and a bit in the transfercase.Strangely enough none in the gearbox or front diff, when I last got it flooded the water was up to the floor .
Hellspawn,I pulled the transfercase cover off and there was next to no endfloat in the intermediate gear so I didnt do the shiming I intended to do.I put a heavier grade(85/140) oil in the fransfercase only.It is quieter at 100ks,but the oil that came out was contaminated with water so it could have been contributing to a tad of noise.
1 last job to do and its ready for the next play session,FIT BREATHER HOSES TO THE DIFFS ops: ops: ops:

Think you'll find that thicker oil in the transfer will mix with everything anyway. Oil in mine seems to move around between the overdrive, gearbox and transfer.

About that intermediate gear. Still wonder if it's a bearing. If it's had water then there is a chance one (or more) bearings are chewed out from lack of oil.

Just for interest. Last weekend I pulled the diff apart I snapped the pinion nut off a while back to inspect the overall wear. The bearings were well and truely gone as though water had been in there for a while. Bit of the carrier had rust as well. It always used to howl a bit but only above 80ks. Have a feeling the previous owners excellent maintenence schedule had something to do with it's internal condition.

Hi Jay
The back diff was badly contaminated by water, the transfercase had a bit in there as it was slightly off colour.
Fortunately I have done no major trips since getting it flooded,I have only been taking it to work which is only just 1km if its that.So hopefully the damage isnt too bad.
I found another 2 teeth in the drain plug of the gearbox, same thing as last oilchange, looks like I will have to send the bloody thing to the dentist sooner or later Everything works ok though.
I see you have a DEVILISH post count today 666
