Hi Incisor
You need to be careful with the copper antisieze on Landys, yes its very good stuff, but it will create electrolisis on aluminium. There is an identical product for use on aluminium, but its zinc based instead of copper.

Further to my earlier post, this site has pictures and explains that 40 % of power can be lost due to fitting these gaskets wrong.
Scroll down till 'Exhaust gasket alignment
http://www.v8engines.com/engine-4.htm#port-matching
8O 40% ! Bit much to swallow I think, expect to lose some power 10~15%by a leaking exhaust gasket but not as in the equivalent of 3 downed cylinders.
Maybe they work it out @5% per port x 8 ports = 40% ,

i use caltex kopr kote, it is pretty much inert being mainly composed of aluminium actually... i should have been more specific, sorry.

i cant see it having any bearing at all on a vehicle that comes off the factory floor with at least 5 types of metal in it anyway

from the caltex product description sheet...
"It is an NLGI No 1.5 aluminium complex soap based grease fortified with corrosion and oxidation inhibitors, tackiness, extreme pressure and anti wear additives, along with copper and graphite anti-seize fillers. It is lead free."

Could be right.

Out of my own interest I've gone back to the site and trawled through double checking.... hmmmmm.... :?

The only reference I could find is the one already quoted

Surprisingly enough, exhaust blow was not a problem but power was 40% down (minimum), especially as rpm. increased
Still sounds dubious that it would cause that much loss of performance from one blown gasket (shown in the photograph), all gaskets blown maybe but how likely is that to happen at the same time? :? Treat with caution.

one of ( if not THE ) best RoverV8 sites out there---

its interesting how the correct method is fit on the manifold,
not "stamped side of gasket to head"

knowing my luck they will ALL blow out tomorrow

I think it would be so much easier if the gasket manufacturer actually put a small mark on ther front of the gasket then we would all fit them correctly.
When I did my heads, I actually put one around the wrong way, try un bolting them again whilst the engine is in vehicle. It ya have big hands, it really hard to reach the bolts.
