Defender Locking Fuel Cap

Does anyone know of a replacement locking fuel cap that will fit the Defender. Must have a breather hole. I am fairly reluctant to part with $90-100 for a locking fuel cap when the same type are in Super Crap for about $15. Just a matter of finding the right one. The unfortuanate thing is they wont let me test them as they are in a sealed packet. The VT Commodore one looks very similar? Lost mine at a servo, 2 now from this same servo on the bowser. Rang them within a few hours to check both times and they had gone (one on a Commodore) to pick up on return trip. Someone is being fairly dishonest either swipping them and driving off or the garage is making money out of them. Being a locking one I hope someone uses it and can not get it back off. Have spoke to several travellers who have done similar at this garage and lost their caps. Next one will be getting a chain put on it. This is the downside of the Defeneder as there is no where to put the cap so it gets stuck on the bowser. The Disco was good as there was room to sit it near the filler neck.

The rangie has a 'cap holder' inside the fuel flap/door thingy.

But then, we landed gentry expect that sort of thing.

Perhaps a trip to a wreckers might sort out for you which one might fit ? They'd be more likely to let you test them.
It's not broken. It's "Carbon Neutral".

    Hi CraigE,

I know these arent locking but at least you shouldn't lose it

following from Expedition Exchange website - Discovery?????????? typo I think, sure looks like a Fender fuel filler to me :?

Discovery Tethered Fuel Filler Cap (ESR2872) $28

If you own a Defender, then you have probably lost your fuel filler cap at least once. This Tethered Fuel Filler Cap is standard fitment on the Discovery and is an elegant solution to the problem of losing fuel filler caps. The tether also permits the cap to hang freely while refueling your vehicle and there is no need to place the cap on the wheel carrier or elsewhere. Not only is losing the cap eliminated but refueling is also much considerably easier. (Stainless steel mounting screw shown in photo is not included.)

I'm a very absent minded person but have not lost my Defender cap yet. The huge filter thingy hanging off it sort of helps I think. Though I guess I have jinxed myself now and will lose it next time I fill up.

I did lose the keys to the aux tank on a run in the outback, though. Both keys were on the key ring separate to the other keys. Why? Because I am an idiot.

    Ummmm,

If I remember rightly, mine used to have a small chain linked to the extention filler neck that slid out, so the only way you could loose your cap was with the extention tube which was about 10in long  this was on a 300tdi though and cant comment on td5s.

try using the cap to wedge the pump handle instead of sitting there holding it....(like the cabbies do).

it wont be left any where to be forgotten.

As Defenderzook has suggested. I use this method every time I fill my defender and never had a problem or lost a cap.
