but if they are the same, ive got a VL comm boss on mine. 92 disco.
it fits quite tight(i did a bit of filing) but you loose the thingy
that turns your blinkers off after a corner????

Does anyone know if there are any differences in the steering wheel shaft splines on a Defender/Range Rover/Discovery? My steering wheel is a bit worse for wear and just want to know if other non air bag wheels will fit without a boss kit. Thanks

Yes they are all different. In fact, Defenders alone have at least 2 different versions depending on the year.
Getting an aftermarket wheel is an option, but sometimes it's hard to find a brand with a listing for a boss kit. I have just ordered (yesterday) a flash wheel for my Defender because the original is looking a bit cr@p. To my great surprise, Isotta (an Italian mob) actually have a boss kit listed. Whether it turns out to be available in Australia is another matter...I'll let you know.

They are not all different although there is a fine spline and a finer spline.
I use a 2 spoke discovery wheel on my Series 3. The splines are very close but the lenghts are different.
Just count the splines and measure diametre and go LR parts shopping.

I know a 2002 Defender uses a boss kit which is the same on a Classic Rangie if that is any help. I also believe that the 300TDi uses a different spline again.
As DaveS3 said, it all comes down to the number of splines and shaft diameter.

I cut up my original stirring wheel to use the center part and had a toolmaker machine me an adapter plate to fit an aftermarket steering wheel, welded the 2 parts together works well. :wink:
And used a 40 mm spacer between adapter and steering wheel
Had trouble seeing the indicator lamps in the pod! Solution fitted a buser to the flasher relay now I can hear if there are on or not.

I have a boss wheel fitted to autotechnica adaptor .
My wheel sits further out than I would like.

I've been trying to collect this type of info partly because I wanted to change my wheel. After lots of research, so far I have come up with the following:
As far as Defenders & 110s (County) are concerned:
Pre Defender is different to 200tdi, which is also different to 300tdi.
TD5 Defenders have two different types of wheels fitted from the factory, depending on the model. Those with the large padded centre section (like on our Extremes) have the same spline as the pre-Defender 110 and are interchangeable. Those TD5s with the flat style steering wheel (normally 130s) are different from the Extremes, even for the same year.
As noted above, some series wheels, Discos or Rangies may fit others, but I've no definite info on that.

I have a boss kit with a Momo wheel on my 84RR Classic, will pull that off and see if it is the same . If I remember rightly the boss kit was a SAAS type. I think that I still have the box at home, I will have a look and post the reference number for anyone that is interested. Was hoping to avoid a boss kit if possible.
