There are nuts that stop the wheel going back any further on the mounts, another nut or spacer could be used.
I've noticed on some older defender that the spare tyre holder on the rear door can actually allow the tyre to hit the door and wear the paint off. Now this can't be a good thing 8O
Is this still the case on newer Defendes? If so, what is the fix?
Thanks!
Steve

FWIW - 2002MY onwards has a different mounting bracket & a one piece rear door. The bracket itself is more like (in fact it might actually be the same) as the Disco rear bracket.
Either way, just do as Craig suggests and put a spacer on though ultimately you would be better off putting a swing away carrier on to relieve the stress on the rear door.

Is it the wheel and tyre that move to contact the door, or is it the door and bracket?
This is not and option that I've seen many people do?
On mine the tyre is well clear of the door, however on opening the door the door stop is the tyre coming into contact with the right hand rear of the vehicle.
Quaint pom design I must say
Cheers
the standard wheels should not touch the the door...if wider wheels or alloys are fitted they need to be used in conjunction with spacers.
this will give enough distance between the tyre and door to prevent rubbing....fron memory the spacers were about 3/4 of an inch thick.
My 03 's exactly the same and the doors bent from new.Originally posted by Rosco

The 2nd they took it to their authorised panel shop who adjusted the hinges on the right door, but that didnt really help the fact that the door is bent. When I had wasted another day for no result I was rather excited and after speaking with the manager who then himself looked at the door and said "thats bent, it will have to go to the panel shop and be repaired" and then informed me that will take 2-3 days but they will give me a car for that period I left in disgust..So here's a question, can I approach LR direct and just get a new door sent to this dealer to be installed in a day, or do warranty claims have to go thru the dealer?Anyone had any experiences with LR customer service in this regard?
Mate, you've got 'em by the balls, now's the time to twist![]()
I would refer you to page 4 of your 'Service Portfolio and Owner Information'... sub-section 'Right First Time Repairs' ... quote "If you tell us within 7 days, that a repair is unsatisfactory, we will pick up and deliver the vehicle back to you and if required, provide you with alternative transport until the completion of the repair." unquote.
Go for it ... and good luck
