Thread repair for 3.9 head bolt threads.

    Need to rethread my block.
Do i go helicoil or timesert style
    After reading this.

Time-Sert vs Helicoil what's best for your job?

    Im unsure.
I want to do it correct the first time.
Time tert sell a kit branded fot the 7/16 bolts but at nearly 500.00 is getting to the limit even for me,

    Timesert 12880.

Any one have used ethier one please post advice..... or better still have a timesert kit sitting around and willing to hire it out put into a postbag.(for a price of course)..
    Cheers .

I've been using Recoil brand thread repairs for 30 years on alloy V8 engines and have found them to be entirely adequate for head bolts.

    Example:

    Thank you.
What about size do you get one helicoil at correct height or use two smaller ones to fill drilled hole.

[COLOR="Navy"]Dan I think you should get an engineering tradesman to the job for you.

It's not hard or time consuming but should be done properly.

I have known some fitters who **** them up.For instance , can you drill square , and then tap square?

If you are doing it yourself , use a single insert of the correct length.

Use a lubricant when fitting up the head....thread inserts tend to become threadbound when inserting screws dry.

    Thanks.
I have got the jig here for 7/16 drill here.
    So no dramas there.
Just after info on the results of each in the rover's block.
I did my time rebuliding crushers in Qld.
Very little work with ali i must say.
Just concerned with the hardness of the block to take the strain of the helicoil.

So have just ordered the Arp set (landrover type) with wurth inserts .
And least it will reduce the strain and make it easer if i have to do it again.
    Cheers

    Jobs done.
    V8 fired straight up.
Had to tighten exhaust up a bit but very pleased. Put 100km on it.
Drop oil coolant. New filters etc.
Did full leak down test. And compression test number are great....
Must say look forever to bleed cooling system. ..
    Fingers crossed. ..
(Might source a vt 5.0 for a conversion)
