    Plenum Chamber Butterfly Valve??

    Guys,
A while ago, I posted re an air leak on my Plenum chamber. Having located this and fixed it, I'm now certain that air is ONLY comming in through the air intake (placing your hand over the intake with the engine running stalls the engine immediately, sucking your hand in!!).

However, I am still having problems with the engine racing. I have blocked the idle air entry port and flame trap port (both on the side of the air intake immediately before the butterfly) but the engine still races. When I place my hand over the intake, it stalls straight away.

My diagnosis is that (for some strange reason) I am getting too much air past the butterfly valve.

My first question is if this is really possible and how tight does the seal have to be?

Secondly, can you get the valve re-machined for a better fit?

Is there somewhere else I should be looking?

The car was running fine until I started mucking with it, doh!

    Thanks guys

I'd expect it to stall if you cover the intake.

Have you checked for leaks at the vacuum line to the brake power booster, the vacuum line to the fuel pressure regulator (at the back RHS of the plenum), the lines to the idle up system, etc.?

    What year model is it?
