dont ask me about tappets.![]()
with regards to the slight vibration at 1100 revs,
hmmm i've got a 78 series 111 and dont have any "slight" vibrations at all.
give it another 25 years they should go away.
I have a V8 SII Disco, and it makes a ticking noise from the RHS of the engine. Now, I think it's a tappet, but not the "Technicians" at the dealer. It's been in 3 times so far for this and other niggling problems. And I'm starting to wonder. I have had Rover V8s in the past that develope loose tappets. But the tappet got louder the faster you go.
SO..... The question is, DO SERIES II DISCOVERY V8's make a ticking at low RPM that increases in speed but not volume??????
And while I'm here, does anyone have a slight vibration at about 1100rpm. Said Dealer just put a new ACE pump in mine at 40k and it only reduced not cured the prob. My S1 was smooth as silk.
40K service cost me $1800 with a set of rear pads and a disk machine. My wife freaked.

They have their place.
But most of the Land Rovers here haven't seen a dealer in a decade at least.

And your good lady should understand that it costs $1,000 to open the bonnet of any make of car at the dealer
Don't lose too much sleep.

just re-done all mine after 130,000k's
new rotors and disc's all round including labour $860
130's rule
Can you post here the itemised list for how the 'dealer' got you for $1800? I think some of us would be very interested to see how this figure was arrived.
Hmmmm.....
Post it and a further discussion may ensue...
Cheers, GQ
I used the "My 1964 IIA never made these vibrations" in the reasons for my agitation in explaining the annoying symptoms. This was going to be my last newish Landy too.
The list is really long on parts but is pretty standard - filters and fluid etc, Anomalies were oil filter kit at $102, wiper blade at.....70.84 can you beleive it. Parts for service came to 1166! Brake pads and machining the disks was 501 and total 847 in combined labour.
Try that on after the long weekend. There's plenty of stuff with the warranty, like a new ACE pump. I found the service pretty good, with the warranty items which makes me think there might not be an issue! But it goes click click click and drives me nuts.
Hi mrapocalypse, where in hell did you get your service done.
I have a 2002 RR and the highest I have ever paid for a service with parts including brake pads was only $800 and something.
Mate I would be calling LRA and seeing if they can be of some help.
Cheers.
Actually rang them and they were very friendly and helpful. In fact I can't complain about any of the service, The Dealer has in fact been pretty good about the whole thing, they just don't seem to want to pull the heads off and FIX THAT TICKING NOISE.
Once the truck is out of warranty I don't usually go to the dealers. I preferr mechanics to technicians. I'm a type of technician and I have no idea.
It's normally not much over 1 k for the whole lot, even with some bits and pieces thrown in. I'm not so happy with the series II. I don't think it's the right beast for mortals. I think it's over complicated and badly made. Terrible combination. Mines a 2002 and has no CDL at all too, which upsets me.
Discs from $65-$125 each
pads from $55.00 $180 per axle.
got to love the stealers.
Michael.
Had a vehicle that had ticking from the motor that was very hard to diagnose. Sounded like a tappet, ended up being a small hole in the exhaust manifold. Have heard since that even a small hole in the exhaust can cause this confusion if it's up near the motor. Being small the hole is very hard to locate as it can be intermitent at times.
Might help see how you go,
Cheers Tyrepower
