    Steering shudder.

Hi all, on the weekend of the last bbq I bent my steering, a replacement track rod and steering damnper was ordered from LVS and installed not long after. The problem is though, ever since i fixed the steering, with two new tie rod ends, when i hit bumps or rough patches in the road I get really bad steering shudder. The steering is fine under heavy braking and on a smooth road the car drives fine. It never did this before i bent the steering. I also get the shudder under heavy cornering if there are some slight bumps in the road. The car is handling fine, except for the shudder back thorugh the steering. Any ideas? Matt

    Wobbles

    Ace,
Check the radius arms to make sure you havent got any stuffed bushes. I had a leaking power steering box that stuffed one of my bushes that made right hand turns very scary until i found out what was wrong. Get under the bus while someone is at the steering wheel turning the wheel to check all the steering knuckles etc. Maybe check the wheel bearings too and make sure they are okay.Good luck

I take it you installed same youself.

Check the installation of the dampner again making sure that it is secure.

I had this problem when I did mine.

Same problem on mine, turned out to be the panhard rod bush.

    Bingo!

Much more likely to be parnhard rod bushes then radius etc.

Check your TRE and rods as well as they can have some play to dd to the overall 'effect' :?

Easy to replace and not many $$$

    Ah this old one
Over here we call it Death Woddle when it happens as it feels like you are going to die. Even more so over here when it happens at 80mph
It is caused by the combination of the hockey stick bushes ( on the front axel) and the panard rod bushes
Repace them and it will be ok

Ace, did i read somewhere that your steering dampner
    was second hand????
    if so its stuffed!
if not it might be upside down, smallest body of the shock
    should be pointing down hill.

replace your panhard bushes with the blue poly ones
these are easer to fit and last longer than the oem ones.

Hi guys, the damper is fitted as Discowhite described it, small end pointing down. When it comes to suspension bits, i know where they all are but i get all the names mixed up. Which are the panhard bushes? I will get some of these and a new steering damper, this should fix the proble right? Matt
