LT230 temporary install
Hi All!
Can anyone let me know if 28D suffix C LT230 will bolt onto my R380? I'm looking at temporary installing it while I recondition my 36D G suffix. This is all on 96 Disco tdI. Also is gear ratio 1.222 and 1.211 noticeable much?
Thanks!!!!

Yes it will. Ratio difference is bigger all. 1.222 has stronger gears

LT230 Temp swap
I cant say about the compatibility, but the difference in gear ratios is negligible less than 0.1 of one percent.

Thanks for the info both!
I took it apart to check the condition. All seems good. Looks like someone already installed cross drilled input gear, but there is no oil feed plate. I forgot what was that for anyway. Only thing to replace are dished washers in the diff. 3 are paper thin and one is completely gone. Hopefully it will reduce the backlash that's driving me crazy. Also from what I can see there is a lot of backlash between selector ring and high/low gears. Is there any cure for that? I can see that dog gears are worn, but how much better are the new ones? I recall someone mentioned that it was engineered like that on purpose for easier hi / low shifting. **** poor solution IMO. Now every time I shift gears I feel like something is gonna snap down there.
Thanx for enduring this little spleen vent

You can replace the selector ring (sleeve). How did you isolate your backlash when shifting to the hi-low selector ring? You've got plenty of possible culprits: drive member splines, half-shaft splines, diff splines, T-box output shaft plines, prop shaft Ujs and splines, gear box innards, diff pre-load....
Also note that the recommended clearance between the low-range gear and hi-lo hub, and for the hi-range gear and hi-low hub, is 0.05mm - 0.15mm. If more than that the WSM advises fitting a new gear + hub.

Hi Jode,
I isolated it to xfer case because I tested everything else and set up my diffs properly. At the time of install, all splines were ok. Now on my spare LT 230 I'm looking at the same thing. Dog gears on high gear that selecor sleeve slides over look worn. Sleve itself doesn't have any noticable wear.
