Holy crap. When and how did this happen?
First up, you punch 2 holes in opposite sides of the block.
Then cut a conrod in 2 so there is less rotating mass, this also cuts fuel usage as you are now running on 3 cylinders.
Some interesting facts i just discovered about the 300TDI -
1) a near complete short block is ****** heavy
2) a tdi crank is heavy when hopping on one leg
3) ditto the flywheel
4) rear main T gaskets are actually L shaped
5) the cam retaining plate is hidden behind the rear timing cover section
6) cam followers are a 3 piece mechanical roller lifter design
7) the 10mm bolts LR like to use round easily when using multi point sockets
8) injection pump is a bastard to remove
And some pics of this lightweight, 3 cylinder TDI -

Holy crap. When and how did this happen?
If it was mine Joel i'd still be stewing in my misery.
Previous, previous owner of the vehicle this came out of said the motor had only done 120K since a reco , big end bearings were down to copper and all bearings were stamped as being standard size.
