Bottom Radiator Hose Genuine or After Market
Hey Guys
I'm replacing all the hoses and belts with new and keeping the old for spares for two trips this year; Lawn Hill (May 05 my parents) and Simpson Desert, Aryes Rock (Sept/Oct). I will probably go with the genuiine for piece of mind.
Bottom Hose
Genuine $185
Non-Gen $77
Has anybody had problems with Non-Genuine radiators hoses.

you will probably find that the only difference is $108 left over in your pocket at the end of the day.
theoretically all hoses should be changed every year or two....
realisticaly all hoses get changed only when they leak.
i would use the non genuine and keep the dollars for something else....
the only time i would use genuine is if non genuine isnt available. such as with some specialty hoses that look like a plumbers nightmare.
dont go thinking land rover make hoses...the company that sells to land rover also has retail outlets......what im saying is you could be buying the same hose made by the same manufacturer but with a land rover sticker on it that costs 108 dollars.
how many cars are out there with a $5hose bought from k-mart about 10 years ago and still running?
im not saying dont change your hoses till they leak....just saying save your self some dollars on this.

if you carry a spare it will never brake!!! go the aftermarket one!!
i know yours is a diesal, but for thoes of you with a S1 V8 disco
the top radiator hose can be interchanged with a V6 comm top hose.
the radiator end is slightly larger than the spout so use 2 hose clamps
cost me 25 bucks
phil.

I have been thinking of getting a brass "T " Piece ,made up that will allow me to use 2 lengths of radiator hose on the ends and a smaller diameter hose for the centre part of the 'T". Clamp them all up and have a custom made hose.
Why do you have to have a one piece moulded one any way.
Would be a lot cheaper me thinks

The aftermarket TDI Disco ones are crap not sure about Defs. Talk to Dwane at MR and see what he has.

I looked at making a custom one but i thought it would mean more places for it to fail. The bottom one is currently genuine, well I think so as the previous owner had most repairs/servicing done at the dealership. I think I will go the aftermarket as a spare.

Out of All the veicles I have owned and friends vehicles I have worked on I only ever had to replace top radiator hoses and only ever had one bottom radiator hose replaced.
There usually is more pressure at the top parts

more heat at the top.
the bottom one gets cooled by air from under the vehicle.

Rebuilt the clutch on the Disco a couple of years ago and bought the parts from FWD Motors. Exactly same product in manufacturer's box rather than LR box.
Almost 1/2 price 8O .
Those frigg'n LR boxes are bloody expensive :!:
Cheers
