Nice Tanks Mate!!!

To put a 140L Long Ranger fuel tank in a DII is about $1200, OR $1900 with the 30L side tank. Which works out to be a bit more than 2 jerry cans additional with the 140, and 4 with the side tank. Jerry cans are about $50 a throw!

What's the go with carrying fuel inside the car, I said in another post that it used to stink out the interior of a soft top IIA, forget the climate controlled interior of a SII Discovery. Do you guys run vents or just put up with it, and what's the status with insurance if you have a fire, or an accident.

Range is a real issue for the V8, even on the highway and don't even bother telling me I should have bought a diesel.

Like KAI said ... inside will be fine .. just make sure you don't leave them inside the RR on a hot day .. if it's plastic .. it will look like a blimp .. 8O and even worse .. could explode inside the vehicle.

this might help???
at work both in QLD and now in NSW BP wont let me fill
up any 44gal drums, either diesal or ULP! they have told me
that it can be done but only with all the right fire fighting equipment.
oh and a static strap!! for both fuels. have you seen a static strap
on any of the bowsers?????????
now if im fillin up a 44, thats 204L, how is it different to fillin up a
4x4 with 2 tanks?????? thats close to 200L, isnt it???

so now i take 5 jerry cans with me and do the trip twice!

A 44 would look pretty wild on the roof rack! Test out the ACE system pretty heavily. I could run a gravity feed straight into the main tank

it has to do with their insurance policies....

a drum needs to be sitting on the ground (earthed) before it is filled... from your 5 litre victa drum to your 44 gallon drum.

just run a rubber strap to the ground with a clamp on the top and tell them it is earthed...... do you honestly think they will know the difference?

just make sure the bowser nozzle is touching the metal of the drum being filled for your own safety.

if they still have a problem try another servo.

i dont see how a drum on a ute or trailer is earted differently to the tank in a car...they both run on the same rubber tyres.....

the only problem i can see is if you turn up with the 44 gallon drum in the back of the disco....this my dear friend is a no no.

Hi
Jerry cans,if you are buying them go for the rheem black plastic ones they are the ducks nuts for $30 or less,be wary of some of the cheaper red coloured ones.
I have 2 20l and 2 5l black plastic containers, they are very tough and dont leak. The 20l ones have "grown" to 25l thru a bit of "stretching" when left in the sun with a litre or 3 of petrol in them.If you do fill them to the max, make sure you tilt them back on an angle with the air in the container at the lid or thet will spray fuel everywhere under pressure if you dont.

I've got a story for ya I'll give you the drum. (no pun intended)

Years ago I was out at a hut with a mate of mine and we had a couple of jerries sitting around and wanted to get the fire going a little bit harder, if you know what i mean.

Anyway "Chris" grabs one of the jerries and starts pourin it on the very meagre fire we had goin and of course we get a burst of flames. The flames shoot up into the jerry can and theres flames flying out of the spout
of the JC. Upon seeing this I **** bolt into the bush thinking the thing is gonna explode!

I came back a few minutes later after hearing nothing but silence.

Geez your a dumb c#$t says Chris, still holding the jerry. Petrol needs to be under pressure to "explode"!! (The cap being removed from the JC relieved the pressure)

Well now I know.

If I correctly recall from all the "safety training" I did when I worked for a major oil company, this pressure theory is not quite right when it comes to igniting fuel.

Petrol as a liquid will not necessarily ignite.

The danger zone is the petrol vapour combined in the right mixture of oxygen and an ignition source (spark or flame) and hey presto - no eyebrows 8O 8O 8O

It is much easier to obtain the right mixture of oxygen and petrol vapour in a confined space, such as in a car. Then all you need is an ignition source - a wire short or easier still a static shock.

I have seen many controlled tests of playing with petrol and fire and I can tell you I would not be driving around on a regular basis with a jerry can full of fuel in the car. If you have to, make sure there is good airflow.
