Question home made Fuel tank

Hi
I am thinking of making a 60L-fuel tank to fit between
My rear seat and my drawer system dims are ~1200mm long
And 150mm deep at bottom and 100mm at the top and 450mm
In height with 4 bevels in the inside. Filler at the top and an
Outlet on the bottom both on the driver side .

What are the legal implication if any?

Not sure, but i dont see a problem with it if you use correct materials, and get it pressure tested before use install and use it. Matt

I dont think an internally mounted fuel tank is legal in a vehicle that is as open as a Rangie, fumes could ignite if there are any sparks or static - and we all know about lucas electrics! Best spot would be a sill mounted tank of 30-40 litres tucked up as high as possible, 1 each side if needed.

Not sure of specific ADRs etc, check with your local RTA before proceeding though. I should imagine that it would be OK as long as it vents to the outside, is filled to the outside, baffled and constructed of material that will not rupture in a collission. It may also need to be weld tested. They allow lpg tanks inside a vehicle so it should be plausible.

boom tank

Ok`dokey so we are talking about petrol as opposed to diesel ( cause diesel don't have a low flash point like petrol and don't produce volatile vapors like petrol .... you know the things that go boom ).

As to venting outside ... not allowed by ADR`s must feed back via charcole canister and fumes ingested by the engine.

Pressure testing ... welding certification ...... to what standard and at what cost. Bottom line buy an after market manufactured tank ... no hassles . But if you understand materials and welding build your own and sling it under side not inside.

Kai,

Why do you want to put it in the cabin?

I agree with Loanrangie on this, get some sill tanks if you want fuel capacity.

i do agree, sill tanks are the Go.

Or find a car with a similar sized tank and whack it under yours.
Try Pick a part and take a tape measure.

Thats what i'm going to do for 2 sill tanks.

Cheap and easy to find if you bugger one.

Hey, steal 2 out of a Cooper S mini......

It would be illegal!
there would have to be a fire wall of some sort to isolate
it from the driver ect!
most states wont let you put a propper fuel cell in the boot of a sedan
a ute would be a different question. :?:
