TD5 Anti-stall

Apparently TD5s (Defenders, at least) have an anti-stall mechanism. Simply bring the clutch up, don't touch the loud pedal, and the computer will figure out what to do and not stall the thing.

I'll be trying this shortly, Sunday at the latest when I'm heading out for a bit of action, but anyone given it a shot? I don't know if it works in high, low or both ranges.

I don't know whether it's anti-stall or not, but if you let the clutch out in 1st mine will slowly put up quite big hills

I've stalled it in 1st high in a parking lot too (got to cocky and dropped the clutch too quickly ops: ), so I don't think there's what I'd consider to be anti-stall. Just the computer trying to keep the revs at predetemined minimum.

Ease the clutch out in any gear and the computer adjusts to try and keep the revs up (...just a tad jumpy in 4/5th high! 8O )

I thinks its just a case of the ECU trying to keep it at idle speed

If it detects revs dropping below idle, you can feel it accelerate (if in gear) to come back up to idle. A bit unnerving when you're expecting a stall.

Well, I was out in the forest today and had the chance to give this anti-stall feature a try.

    IT WORKS.

Now, it's not going to haul you up a crazily steep and rutted hill, but it will certainly do a lot better than you'd expect. I have to say I was pretty impressed with it.

To operate, it's pretty simple. Just don't touch the accelerator, at all. Works in any gear but first low is best. If it stalls, well you aren't going anywhere and can key-start backwards.

    TD5 Anti Stall

I,ve been playing around with this as well and have found it quite suprising just how steep a hill the idle self adjusting will pull the Defender up. Even tried it with a trailer full of railway sleepers in first high and she just kept plugging away.

How is this any different to a vehicle with good torque or gearing?
