    gearbox problems i think

    2000 TD5 130 now the question is

I have a loud rattle from gears 3-5
If i free roll the rattling go's away, but as soon as i
Put it back into gear the loud i must say rattle comes back
It's not as bad under load but you can still hear it,but
Once it starts to free roll its really loud
Any suggestions before I take it somewhere to get fixed

Needs looking at, as your post reads like a layshaft bearing is on the way out and until you get it into a Land Rover mechanic to check it out, avoid using the indirect gears by staying in 4th as much as possible.

most likely one of the layshaft bearings or the rear mainshaft bearings, it could also be the front input bearing. If you're very very very lucky (you're not) its just the gearbox oil pump making noise.

If you're moderatly lucky its a shattered syncro ring

it doesnt really matter which of the above it is, its making swarf and you're going to be up for at a minimum a bearing set and possibly the pump parts but stand by to fork out for new syncros as well. Uf you're unlucky by the time you get to it the shafts will have taken damage and need replacing.

IMO the solid flywheel caused that gearbox failure... go back to dmf or you'll ruin it again after you'll spend serious money to fix it
