Broken solder joints on window lift ECU. Remove again and resolder.
Good Day,
was hoping any of you would have some advise for me:
Discovery 1 - MKY 1998
Got no power to rear window actuators and carried out the following troubleshooting without success:
1) checked and swapped fuse (under dashboard - main C/B panel)
2) disconnected rear isolator switch from center console
3) bridged rear isolator connector with wire (center console connector)
4) checked connectors to window lift control unit (located behind the glove box)
Unfortunately I have had no success.
Is there anything else I could try before taking out the center console and checking on the wiring or buying a new window lift control unit?
Best Regards
Rob

Amen.
Use strong magnifying glass and . - Heck, just re-solder the lot, another one is about to let go...![]()
as above dry solder joints are hard to see, just resolder all as said before
Mine became intermittent a few years ago. Finally stopped altogether.
I haven't bothered fixing it as I never sit in the back.

I was asked " Is it ignorance or apathy?" I replied "I don't know and I don't care."

It happened to my Disco as well. It is a common problem and an easy fix. Search on "rear window dry solder" in the Aulro search box at the bottom of the post and you'll get lots of references how to fix it. Here was the first one off that search.
Rear Power Window - Fixed
Thanks for the advice!
Looks like I found myself another weekend project!
Never done soldering before - got to practice first.
Fingers crossed!
Will try and work that next weekend.
Good news!
All fixed - had one cracked solder joint.
The most difficult part was to pull the lower connector. Went to Ricks 4WD centre in Nerang. Guess he had seen it before. He pulled that plug in no time and didn't want to charge me anything. Don't see that too often nowerdays that tradesmen are happy to help and won't charge. I was very happy!
Soldering itself was a breeze; although I have never done anything like that before. 5 min YouTube university course has proofen to suffice for this job.
Thanks again for all your help and inputs!
Regards
Rob
